Maryland Natives for Your Garden

Native plants have evolved and adapted to local conditions over thousands of years. There are great choices for your landscape, a lot of which we carry to help support Maryland’s natural environment. Planting natives is rising in popularity for the advantages of supporting local wildlife, pollinators, birds, and Maryland’s biodiversity.

The Benefits

Natives are fantastic for your yard in numerous ways:

  1. They are resistant to most pests and diseases.

  2. They are vigorous and hardy, able to survive in the winter cold and summer heat.

  3. They provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies and other desirable wildlife.

  4. Many help to enrich the soil.

  5. Their root systems help rainfall percolate into the soil, reducing erosion and runoff.

  6. They typically require less irrigation or fertilization.
